Cooper Cronk sent in these photos of taken in the past few months in Highland Park. There’s a bald eagle, a cormorant, tree swallow, greater white-fronted goose and a savannah sparrow. Enjoy. Cooper added some text to describe the various birds.
The bald eagle is in white belly 1 plumage which means it is a first year that just left the nest. This one was photographed in Donaldson Park on April 6th and probably came from the Edgeboro landfill which is the only known breeding site nearby.
Tree swallows are common at Donaldson Park – here is a lovely example of a tree swallow.
The double-crested cormorant was photographed at Donaldson Park as well.
Greater white-fronted goose on March 22nd was a great bird for Johnson Park. Seen with Canadas a few days before by the murky pond by the rail-road bridge. These photos was taken just past the horse track.
Savannah sparrows sadly don’t breed here like they used to. This guy was photographed on April 21st, just before the breeding season, in Donaldson Park
